Osage Tribal Museum presents Osage Wedding Presentation

The Osage Tribal Museum invites you to extend your Valentine’s Day celebration by attending an evening of films, discussion and fellowship from 6-9 pm on Thursday, February 19, 2015. The event is part of the on-going efforts of the Osage Tribal Museum and the Sam Noble Museum, University of Oklahoma to develop an exhibition and publication on Osage weddings and the incorporation of “brides” in the paying for the drum ceremonies of the Elonshka dances.

We will view a range of historic and contemporary film footage including scenes from an Osage Weddings (Marion Coshehe) and discuss the scenes and events depicted in the films.  We will also view a presentation on the oral history of Osage weddings preserved in the Doris Duke Collection, Western History Collection. We invite community comments and suggestions as we move forward in the development of the exhibition. Drop in for some light refreshments, view some historic films and contribute to the development of a museum exhibition.

We invite people to bring their Osage wedding or paying for the drum films a couple of days early, if they wish to share them, during the evening.

The event is sponsored by the Osage Tribal Museum, the Sam Noble Museum and the College of Arts and Sciences, University of Oklahoma.
