Osage Man Wins Outstanding Participant Award

PAWHUSKA, Okla. (Thursday April 12, 2018) – Local Fairfax man Charles “Taos” Barrone (Osage) was selected to receive the Outstanding Participant Award- 477 at this year’s National Indian and Native American Employment and Training Ceremony (NINAETC).

The award recognizes an individual who has overcome barriers and has succeeded in their Employment and Training plan with the help of Public Law 102-477.
Employees came together at the Osage Nation and nominated Taos for the award, stating, “he deserves it.”

Taos has been through some tough times, from having no structure in his life to spending time in jail and dealing with alcohol. After spending time in jail, Taos made a decision to become sober and work on his relationship with God. He visited the Osage Nation Welcome Center and was placed on the Career Development Program. Through this program Taos was able to attend life skills training which eventually led him to a full time position at the Osage Nation Tribal Works Department. Also, he was able to start a twelve-step program in the community and became a licensed minister. “Remember we are not the miracle, what God did is the miracle,” said Barrone.

The National Indian and Native American Employment and Training Awards Luncheon was held Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at the Paragon Casino Resort in Marksville, LA. Barrone received a three hundred dollar grant for travel assistance, a plaque and Pendleton blanket.
