On Monday, October 12, 2026, Osage Nation Principal Chief Joe Tillman joined tribal leaders and community members from across Oklahoma to celebrate the 10th Annual Tulsa Native American Day at Dream Keepers Park. The event, organized by the Greater Tulsa Area Indian Affairs Commission, brought together thousands of attendees under the 2026 theme, βSovereign Roots, Shared Future.β Tulsa Mayor Monroe Nichols extended a warm welcome to attendees and served as parade marshal, helping commemorate a day dedicated to celebrating Native cultures, sovereignty, and community.
During the event, Chief Tillman spoke alongside fellow tribal leaders, highlighting the importance of honoring Native identities while collaborating to strengthen communities and ensure a brighter future for the next generation. Osage Nation citizens actively participated in the festivities to celebrate sovereignty and the enduring strength of tribal nations throughout Oklahoma.
In Oklahoma City, Mayor David Holt, an Osage Nation citizen, led the celebrations at the First American Museum. Since 2018, he has officially recognized Indigenous Peoples Day in Oklahoma City through annual mayoral proclamations, becoming the first mayor to do so.
Across Oklahoma, Native American Day serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of bringing communities together to honor the past, celebrate the present, and work toward a shared future grounded in respect, culture, and tribal sovereignty.
