Osage Nation Membership Department FAQ

Q: Does the Osage Nation Membership Department provide photo IDs?

Q: If I've lost my membership card, can I get a new one?

A: Yes, no problem. Please visit our website to complete the Application for Replacement of Membership or CDIB Card, or come by the office in person to complete it. The Osage Nation Membership Department can provide replacement membership cards within 48 business hours. Additional time may be needed if the card is mailed.

Q: If I am applying for a new membership, how long does that take?

A: A new membership card takes significantly longer than a replacement card due to verification of lineal descent from an Osage listed on the base roll created pursuant to the Osage Allotment Act of 1906. Processing a new membership application takes up to 6 months from receipt, with updates every 60 days.

Q: Does the Osage Nation Membership Department issue CDIB cards?

A: No, we do not. The Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) issues CDIB cards. Our department works with the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) to process CDIB Cards. Like the Osage Membership card, CDIBs require verification of lineal descent from an Osage listed on the base roll created pursuant to the Osage Allotment Act of 1906. Because we do not issue CDIB cards, we cannot provide a specific timeframe for their receipt. We do, however, research and process applications and can keep you updated on your status until the point we turn the file over to the BIA.
