Osage Nation Opens PathFinder Program Registration After Successful Inaugural Year
Innovative Program Prepares Next-Generation of Osages in Aviation and Aerospace
OSAGE NATION RESERVATION, OKLA. (November 8, 2024)—After a successful first year, the Osage Nation proudly announces that registration is open for the Osage PathFinders Development (OPD) Program. This unique initiative, which blends the Osage Nation's rich history with cutting-edge aerospace training, is designed to cultivate the future of aviation and aerospace leaders. The Osage PathFinder program aims to foster a new generation of Osage leaders in STEM, aviation, and related aerospace industries.
“The Osage Nation is not just a participant in Northeast Oklahoma’s aerospace industry but a key player, and this program is a testament to our commitment to meeting the industry's demand for skilled professionals,” said Osage Nation Principal Chief Geoffrey Standing Bear. "This program ensures that our youth are career-ready to step into these high-paying positions at home on the Osage Nation Reservation.”
The Osage PathFinder Development program is more than an educational venture; it aims to empower the Osage youth to excel in innovative aerospace fields. Through this initiative, participants will gain technical proficiency in applying STEM in aerospace and receive all their FAA certifications to fly and instruct in unmanned and manned aircraft commercially.
Osage Nation partners with aerospace industry leaders Riverside Flight Center and WindShape to meet the high demand for STEM-related careers through their partnership in Osage Nation's SkyWay 36 located on the Osage Nation Reservation.
“In this inaugural group of students - we’ve had seven - and all have remained in the program,” said Robbie Sturdiva, Riverside Flight School Instructor. “We’ve received really good feedback from the instructors they’ve been working with, so we see this program developing and growing to offer this opportunity to more students.”
The Osage Nation recruitment strategy is structured to identify and select candidates who demonstrate genuine interest in aviation and STEM. This strategy is part of a comprehensive action plan, spearheaded by dedicated Osage Nation members and industry experts, that will guide the PathFinders from recruitment to an immersive learning experience and eventual aerospace industry readiness. The plan ensures that every Pathfinder has the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in the aerospace industry.
