Osage Nation to use American Rescue Plan Act to Move Tribal Projects Forward
Press Release
$108 million to go towards current and on-going projects for Osage Nation and constituents
PAWHUSKA, OKLA. – On May 19, 2021, the Osage Nation received $108 million through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). The funds will be used to support on-going and future tribal projects to benefit the Osage Nation and its constituents. Due to specific funding criteria, Osage Nation’s COVID Task Force and legal counsel is reviewing the 151-page interim rules document to evaluate compliance and make recommendations.
“We look forward to putting this federal funding to work for the Osage people,” said Osage Nation Principal Chief Geoffrey Standing Bear.
According to information released by the U.S. Department of Treasury on May 10, 2021, the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 was established to provide $350 billion in emergency funding for state, local, territorial, and Tribal governments. Treasury also released details on the ways funds can be used to respond to acute pandemic-response needs, fill revenue shortfalls among state and local governments, and support the communities and populations hardest-hit by the COVID-19 crisis.
ARPA appropriates $20 billion to Tribal governments and provides that $1 billion shall be allocated equally among each of the eligible Tribal governments. Treasury determined the allocation of the remaining $19 billion using a formula that is based on tribal enrollment and employment data.
