OSAGE NATION RESERVATION, OKLA. (July 29, 2026) - Osage Nation Principal Chief Joe Tillman has appointed Jeff S. Jones as Attorney General for the Osage Nation, bringing decades of legal, prosecutorial, and governmental experience to the role. Jones, an Osage Nation citizen, previously served as Attorney General for the Osage Nation and has dedicated much of his career to public service within both tribal and state justice systems.
“Mr. Jones’s extensive legal experience, deep understanding of tribal law, and longstanding commitment to justice make him exceptionally qualified to serve as Attorney General,” said Osage Nation Principal Chief Joe Tillman. “His knowledge of both tribal and state legal systems will be an asset as our administration continues working to strengthen our Nation and serve the Osage people.”
A graduate of Skiatook High School, Jones earned degrees in Personnel Management and Marketing from Oklahoma State University before pursuing a legal career. He attended the University of Tulsa College of Law, where he earned a Juris Doctor degree and a Native American Law Certificate in 1999.
Following two years in private practice, Jones joined the Osage County District Attorney’s Office in 2002 and was later named First Assistant District Attorney in 2006. In that role, he prosecuted felony and misdemeanor cases and managed a broad range of legal dockets, including juvenile, delinquent, mental health, and traffic matters.
In 2011, Jones was appointed Attorney General for the Osage Nation, serving four years in the position. During his tenure, he prosecuted criminal cases in tribal court, oversaw child support matters, and provided legal services to the Osage Nation. Since 2019, he has served with the Pawnee County District Attorney’s Office, where he handles a diverse caseload and continues his commitment to public service.
As Attorney General, Jones will serve as the chief legal officer of the Osage Nation, providing legal counsel to the Nation’s government, defending the Constitution and laws of the Osage Nation, and protecting the Nation’s sovereignty and interests.
Mr. Jones will assume the duties of Attorney General on September 1, 2026. In accordance with Osage Nation law, his appointment remains subject to confirmation by the Osage Nation Congress.
