Open Studio
It’s always creative time in the Wah-Zha-Zhi Cultural Center Open Studio!
Drop in anytime between 10am-2pm, Monday and Wednesdays at the Wah-Zha-Zhi Cultural Center Open Studio, where past and present students are welcome to utilize the classroom space of the cultural center. Don’t miss your chance to get some extra hours in the studio! There is no registration required, drop in, at your convenience and stay as long as needed.

Sewing 101
Have you ever wanted to sew, but didn’t know where to start? Do you know the basics of sewing, but need some guidance? If so, this is the class for you! In Sewing 101, you will learn the basics of how to use a sewing machine. We will construct an apron and if time allows, a shopping bag, it’s so easy and great gifts to learn for many years to come.

Finger weaving – continued!
Come learn the basics of traditional Finger weaving, a braiding technique traditionally used in Osage culture to form wide flat pieces such as belts and bags. No loom required, the fingers alone manipulate the threads to form a dense fabric. Participants will receive instruction in the basic technique, with emphasis on identifying, correcting and avoiding mistakes. This is a continued class from the fall, but new students are welcome! Limit 5 new students, this semester.

Tubular Peyote
Come learn the art of Tubular peyote stitch; which is a variation of peyote stitch that forms a hollow, cylindrical shape. The tube may consist of an even or odd number of beads in each row, and you can use it to cover things such as crystals, dance sticks, fan handles, dowels, bottles, and jars, or to create a "rope" of beads, and a small tube is a bead. Class will be taught by renowned artist Jerod Buffalohead.

Peyote Medallion
Medallions are hard! Not so in this class, taught by master bead worker, Jerod Buffalohead. In this class, get ready to learn how to draft a pattern, pick beads and start a small medallion!

Loom it Up: Bead weaving with a Loom!
In this class we will learn what “weft” and “warp” mean, how to choose beads for loom work and how to choose patterns. Come, learn from master bead worker, Jerod Buffalohead how to set up the threads on a loom, design a pattern for loom beading and techniques for finishing our loomed piece!

Osage Style Moccasins
Come make a pair of traditional Osage moccasins! We will teach you how to make a template of your feet, cut out the soles and tops from leather, use an awl to make the holes and finally how to lace/sew the moccasins together, to complete a pair! Two sessions, sign up early and be ready for June!

Shawl Class
The Dance Shawl is an integral piece of clothing for the Osage. Come learn to construct one from start to finish. This class will teach you about the fabric needed, hemming the edges and attaching the fringe!

Men’s Shirt or ladies shirts! All need to learn to sew shirts! During these classes we will discuss and sew traditional Osage shirts!

2014 Head start Graduation Preparation Class!
Geared to the Head start parent who wants to prepare for their child’s commemoration, come join us and learn to sew a shawl for your daughter or a shirt for your son!
Bring your Head start supplies and we will help you complete your project.
