Osage Nation Finalizes Harvest Land Playground and Fitness Stations
On Tuesday, December 14, the Osage Nation held a ribbon-cutting for new playground equipment located along the Harvest Land trails in Pawhuska, Okla. Students from Daposka Ahnkodapi joined the celebration and led the event with Christmas carols. Osage Nation Chief Standing Bear and Princess Gigi Sieke cut the ribbon followed by the students getting first access to the playground.
The outdoor health project was a collaborative effort by Osage Nation Public Health Nursing/Health Education, the Department of Natural Resources, and Childcare and Development Services to promote health and wellness.
“We believe the new playgrounds will provide a family-friendly area to enhance the trail system and promote physical and mental development,” said Childcare and Development Services Director Teresa Bledsoe. “Children now have a place to play, explore and engage with nature and our culture.”
These initiatives are all geared toward creating accessible physical health opportunities for the Osage community and visitors. Harvest Land is located at 102 Midland St. in Pawhuska, Okla. The playground and exercise equipment stations can be found along the Harvest Land trails with access from Highway 60.
