Osage Nation Invites Submissions for Time Capsule to Be Opened in 2106

Time Capsule

OSAGE NATION RESERVATION, Okla. (March 12, 2026)  - As part of a full month of celebrating the Osage Nation’s sovereignty, a time capsule dedication ceremony will be held on Monday, March 30, 2026, at 3:30 p.m. at the Million Dollar Elm location on the Osage Nation Campus in Pawhuska.

For generations, the Osage people have carried forward the stories, traditions, and experiences of those who came before. In that same spirit of honoring the past and speaking to the future, the Osage Nation invites Osages to preserve this moment in time through contributing to or witnessing a Sovereignty Time Capsule Dedication. The event will include a dedication and prayer before the capsule is sealed.

The time capsule will remain closed for 80 years and will be opened in 2106, offering future Osages a glimpse into the culture, values, and everyday life of the Nation today. Osages are encouraged to contribute items. Submissions may include cultural items, photographs, letters, artwork, printed materials, or other historically meaningful objects that represent life in the Osage Nation today.

How to Contribute:

  • Item(s) must fit within a one-gallon Ziploc bag
  • Item(s) may be brought to the event and/or can be mailed to:
    • Osage Nation Executive Office (℅ Time Capsule Dedication)
    • 627 Grandview Avenue, Pawhuska, OK 74056
  • Mailed items must be received by Friday, March 27, 2026
  • Please note that the items included are subject to the capsule's capacity. The Sovereignty Day committee will review items for appropriateness and durability.

These contributions will help ensure that the voices and experiences of today’s Osage community are preserved for the generations who will one day open the capsule. The time capsule project is part of an effort to reflect on the Osage Nation’s enduring sovereignty and cultural continuity while creating a lasting message for future Osages.
