Press Release

Fire Investigators Malone and Miller Receive Recognition from San Carlos Apache Tribe

May 12, 2019, Jeremiah Dude, Law Enforcement Shift Supervisor for San Carlos Apache Tribe Recreation and Wildlife Department, presented Osage Nation Wildland Fire Management Program with a memorandum of special recognition for the work Fire Investigators Corbin Malone and Benny Miller conducted during public service provided to the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation.

According to Dude, “Mr. Malone and Mr. Miller’s expertise in fire investigating was above and beyond expectations. In their short time of service on the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation, 35 fires were investigated in the community that led to six arsonist arrests. The quality of work provided by the two investigators greatly increases the chances of conviction in Tribal Court”.

During this service, Malone and Miller operated alongside Tribal Rangers by educating the public on various fire hazards on the local radio station 91.1 KYAY FM. They also spent several hours observing the community and conducting field interviews. Dude commended them for their cooperative effort and attitude, saying, “this speaks highly of them as individuals and the Osage Wildland Fire Management Program as a whole.”

Specially trained to find initiating factors and evidence about fires, Malone and Miller have demonstrated a true dedication to their duties and public service in Indian country. Program Director and Fire Management Officer Ross Walker commented on the two investigators, saying, “They’re out there doing a great job educating the public to reduce fatalities and injuries to citizens. I was confident they would do a professional job.”
